The Long Beach Flying Wheels Welcomes
You to The Exciting World of Men's
Wheelchair Basketball!

Long Beach Flying Wheels Mission Statement

The Long Beach Flying Wheels is the nation’s oldest men’s wheelchair
basketball team. We are a non-profit basketball organization located in
Long Beach California. Founded in 1947 at the Birmingham VAMC, in Van
Nuys California, by the then hospital athletic director, Robert Rynearson,
the Flying Wheels served as an outlet, as an opportunity for World War II
Veterans, with spinal-cord injuries, to play sports at a competitive level.

Today the Flying Wheels extend an invitation to all individuals locally with
lower limb impairment to join our team at practice, and to try out for the
Flying Wheels!

Todays Flying Wheels team members play the sport with a passion while
enjoying the spirit of competition which wheelchair basketball presents!
We choose ability over disability, insist on enjoying life and having fun,
and we welcome and embrace expanding horizons!
